Does anyone remember the old mountainboard community? It used to be really good. There was a chat feature, videos, and everything. There was often people in the chat too. Many times it was the really good pro riders too. The whole site was pretty awesome.
I think the web address was
www.mountainboarders.us I don't think it has existed for awhile now. Does anyone know what happened to it? I'm not putting this site down at all. It is very close to what mountainboarders.us was like, but mountainboarders.us had so many people and was so active, and this one has not arrived at that level yet.
also there was the mountainboard magazine. Well it started as all terrain boarding magazine, but changed its name to mountainboarding magazine or something like that. They decided that there should be one name for it instead of tons to stop the confusion. That magazine was really cool. I was subscribed for quite awhile to it, but then I wasnt subscribed and I guess the magazine died. Does anyone know what happened there?
Many of the companies who produced mountainboards no longer do it either. It seems like there are more leaving than comming in.
A few years ago I figured this would do one of two things:
progress very quickly, become popular, and be considered right up there with the other extreme sports (skateboarding, bmx, snowboarding, etc).
OR
I thought it'd become an insanely popular fad for a year and then drop off of its popularity as fast as it came.
neither of those have really happened and sometimes it seems like its going backwards.
Now that i've said all that, its not all completely true. The sport has gone down in some areas but has done some other things that show progression.
There was the mountainboard movie on the disney channel. I thought that may spark something huge, but for the most part it hasnt. Either way its cool to see a movie out there about mountainboarding.
The riders doing this sport have progressed quite well. Years ago some tricks that seemed really crazy are now being done everywhere and the envelope is being pushed.
The sport has progressed well in other areas too.
the question is: why is it not booming like I (and many others) expected? Maybe I'm just saying this too early and its about to hit big. Maybe this is the calm before the storm. Maybe I'm all together wrong.
What could cause this? maybe people get the idea that its too dangerous. When people hear anything about mountainboarding they associate it with pain. While it can be a dangerous sport, it really is as dangerous as you make it.
I dont want anyone to take this as me offending the sport or anything. This whole blog just started with me wanting to know what happened to mountainboarders.us and mountainboarding magazine.
I now just want to see what some of your thoughts are. If I'm wrong or if you agree. Do you have any points?
I very well could be wrong.
