I often have to psyche myself up before I do something I never have done before in mountainboarding.

How do you psyche yourself up?

I usually hit my helmet with my hands a couple of times to make me stop thinking about it and just do it.  I find that I board MUCH better when I just don't think about it. Slapping my helmet seems to help to bring me into the moment and just do it.

hah, nice. Anyone stop you to ask if they could try it?

I took several guys on campus out once to try to mountainboard. All of them came back with some kind of bloody wound, but they still had fun. I have had many people try it once, but once they fall, they don't try it again. Lots of people just look at it and say, "I'd kill myself on that thing."

Definitely get a lot of looks on a mountainboard.
